After a short wait for the grate in the ash pan to cool, you can refill the pellets and relight your fire.

NEW: Extend Your Smoke-free Pellet Fire
If you use your MOON smoke-free fire pit with just pellets, this is the great accessory for you. One of the advantages of pellets is: The fire burns for 2 hours without the need for refuelling – and remains completely smoke-free.
Having this extension attached to your MOON means you can remove the Pellet ash whilst still hot, you would then decant the ash to a fire safe bucket, wait a short while for the grate in the base to cool slightly, refill and relight your fire.
For a completely continuous pellet fire without the need to cooling the grate we recommend the spare ash tray with extension, as well as this extension
This way, you would have two completely interchangeable ash pans to swap every two hours.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- Do not refill your ash tray with new pellets until the grate in the bottom has cooled, as the pellets will try to light and will smoke
- Ash tray extensions are not generally required when burning logs as the ash content is much lower with logs
This is how you use MOON with and without the ash tray extension:
1. Filling with fresh pellets
Fill the MOON fire basket with pellets until they are just below the circle of holes. The extended ash tray will enclose about half of the pellets. Now you can ignite the fire as usual.

The burned pellets collect on the ash tray. They can only be removed once they have cooled down. Until then, the fire remains out.
3. Easy emptying and relighting the fire
With the lifter, you can safely remove the ash tray along with the remaining pellet residue from the fire basket. After properly emptying it (or swapping with a second ash tray), the MOON can be refilled right away – and the fire evening can continue.
3. Continue firing after about 4 hours
The hot pellets cannot be removed directly after the fire. Wait about 4 hours until they have fully cooled down and disintegrated. Then, you can remove the ash tray using the vertical handle and a glove, empty it, and refill the MOON for the next fire.

The ash tray extension is needed when using pellets if you want to continue making fire with MOON
after the flame has gone out. Pellet residues are fully collected by the extension, making them easy
to remove so you can refill and relight quickly. Without the extension, removing hot pellet residues
is more difficult.

The ash tray extension is only the extension wall (including lifter) that mounts onto your existing
MOON 45 ash tray. The ash tray with extension is a complete set: a second ash tray with the extension
already attached, allowing fast switching between setups.

If you use only pellets, the ash tray extension alone is enough and attaches easily to your current
MOON ash tray. If you alternate between pellets and firewood, the ash tray with extension (full second
ash tray + extension) allows quick switching without needing to mount or remove parts.
