The MOON fire basket can be fuelled flexibly with wood or pellets. One of the advantages of pellets: The fire burns without the need for refuelling – and remains completely smoke-free.

Thanks to the extended ash tray, you can decide how long your smoke-free fire enjoyment lasts. It reliably collects all pellet residue, can be easily removed and refilled with the handy lifter – for even more uninterrupted fire time.

This is how you use MOON with and without the ash tray extension:

1. Filling with fresh pellets

Fill the MOON fire basket with pellets until they are just below the circle of holes. The extended ash tray will enclose about half of the pellets. Now you can ignite the fire as usual.

3. Easy emptying and relighting the fire

With the lifter, you can safely remove the ash tray along with the remaining pellet residue from the fire basket. After properly emptying it (or swapping with a second ash tray), the MOON can be refilled right away – and the fire evening can continue.

3. Continue firing after about 4 hours

The hot pellets cannot be removed directly after the fire. Wait about 4 hours until they have fully cooled down and disintegrated. Then, you can remove the ash tray using the vertical handle and a glove, empty it, and refill the MOON for the next fire.

What is the purpose of the ash tray extension in the MOON 45?

The ash tray extension is needed when using pellets if you want to continue making fire with MOON after the flame has gone out. Pellet residues are completely collected by the extension and can be quickly and easily disposed of, making it easy to refill and relight the MOON. Without the extension, removing pellet residues while hot is more difficult.

What is the difference between the ash tray extension and the ash tray with extension?

The ash tray extension is just the extension wall (including lifter) that mounts onto an existing MOON 45 ash tray.
The ash tray with extension is a complete set including a new ash tray plus the extension and lifter — ideal for switching quickly between setups.

Which ash tray extension do I need?

If you only use pellets, the ash tray extension alone is sufficient and attaches easily to your current MOON ash tray.
If you alternate between firewood and pellets, the ash tray with extension (a second ash tray with the extension pre-mounted) allows quick swapping without needing to remove or reattach the extension.

Can I upgrade the ash tray extension if I already have an ash tray?

Yes — that is exactly what it is designed for. Simply place the extension on your existing MOON 45 ash tray and secure it using the three screws provided.
